Louis Ody (born January 21, 1869 in Geneva , † November 28, 1908 in Friborg ) was a Swiss politician and State Councilor of the canton of Friborg .

He was Catholic and came from Vaulruz . His parents were François Eugène Charles Ody, a carpenter in Vaulruz who rose to become a major industrialist in Geneva , and Marie Romaine nee. Grandjean. His older brother Firmin was a Geneva councilor (1892-1919) and national councilor (1911-1920). Louis Ody married Emma Rite Joséphine Ruffino in 1900, born in Pistoia (Italy).

After the lower grades in Geneva and in a religious institute in Marseille , he attended the College of St. Michael (1888–1890) and the University of Innsbruck before studying law in Munich . After completing his legal training, he returned to Freiburg , but left the city again to complete his legal studies in Berlin and Paris .

As president of Nuithonia and the French section of the Swiss Student Union (1890) and as a co-founder of Sarinia (1895), he was involved in student associations that could be described as political cadre schools for the conservatives.

On October 8, 1898, he was appointed senior bailiff of the Gruyère district , succeeding Louis Weck , who had been elected President of the Sense District Court. He held this office until his election to the State Council on December 29, 1906. After a reallocation of the directorates, he took over the police and health directorate - again as the successor to Louis Weck. For a short time he was the only Council of State that did not have a seat on the Grand Council. In the military he was captain of Battalion 16.

On November 28, 1908, Louis Ody died of complications from liver disease while exercising his office.
