Louis Roth (* 20th April 1843 in Vienna , † 28. September 1929 in Baden (Lower Austria) ; actually Ludwig Roth ) was an Austrian operettas - Composer and conductor .

Life

Louis Roth studied piano with Carl M. Pfeffer in Vienna and theory with Vetter and Kaismeier. He then worked as choirmaster at various choral societies in 1874/75 and, in the 1875/76 season, Kapellmeister at Danzer's Orpheum . He then worked as Kapellmeister and resident composer at the Theater an der Wien until 1884 , where he also directed many first performances by Johann Strauss (son) , Carl Millöcker and Franz von Suppè . In 1884 he moved to Berlin , where he was composer, conductor and arranger at the Friedrich-Wilhelmstädtischer Theater .

Before the advent of the Berlin operetta, he composed works in the Viennese style and was able to achieve considerable success with some of them. On behalf of the music publisher Georg Lewy, he arranged several dances from the operetta Jabuka or Das Apfelfest (1894) by Johann Strauss (son) for piano, which caused him some trouble with the composer.

Roth was the younger brother of the composer Franz Roth (1837-1907).
