Louise Verneuil

Pauline Louise Benattar (born December 14, 1988 in Corsica ), known by her stage name Louise Verneuil , is a French singer-songwriter .

Life

Verneuil was born in Corsica and has a sister. At the age of 18 months, Verneuil and her family moved to La Bastide-sur-l'Hers in the Ariège department . There they owned a restaurant. When she was eleven, her family moved to the coastal town of Golfe-Juan on the Côte d'Azur , where they attended the Lycée du Mont Saint-Jean near Antibes from 1998 to 2002 .

She learned to play the guitar from her father. Her Spanish mother heard the music of the 1960s and 1970s, bringing Louise closer to French artists, including Barbara , Françoise Hardy , Serge Gainsbourg and Véronique Sanson .

Verneuil completed a degree in journalism and then spent some time in Punta Cana , Dominican Republic . She later worked in Paris as a publicist for a contemporary art exhibition.

Career

In 2018 the single Nicotine was released , in 2019 she released the EP Louise Verneuil , in 2020 the album Lumière noire followed . Verneuil named Billie Holiday , Etta James , Joni Mitchell , Luz Casal , Serge Gainsbourg , Karen Dalton , Françoise Hardy , Nico and Marianne Faithfull as influences .

Private

Verneuil has been in a relationship with Alex Turner , the front man of the British indie rock band Arctic Monkeys , since summer 2018 .
