The Lower Jhelum Barrage is located on the Jhelam River in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .

The hydropower project was completed in 1978/1979. It extends over the upper part of the Jhelam breakthrough valley in Pir Panjal .

Barrage

The Lower Jhelum barrage is located 10 km below the town of Baramulla on Jhelam. It has a crown length of 113 m. On the right bank, most of the river water is fed to an 8.738 km long power station canal, which runs largely above ground, but also partially underground, parallel to the course of the Jhelam river. The maximum flow rate of the power plant channel is 218 m³ / s. The water flows back into the river below the hydroelectric power station. The Uri-I dam is only 1.3 km downstream.

Hydroelectric power plant

The hydropower plant ( ) has three Francis turbines of 35 MW each. The actual maximum power generation is 90 MW. The fall height is 62 m. Due to the low storage capacity, the power plant functions as a run-of-river power plant . The average annual output is 533 million kWh.
