Luc Courchesne (* 1952 in Saint-Léonard-d'Aston , Québec , Canada ) is a Canadian artist in the field of media art. He has been dealing with interactivity since the early 1980s . Multimedia should find its way into museums . He experimented with lighting , photography , film art and video . Later he concentrated on the representation of portraits and the connections between facial expressions, gestures and language. He always tries to include the visitors in his installations.

Courchesne graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax with a degree in communication design in 1974 and received his Master of Science degree in visual communication from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, USA in 1984 . In 1986 he became professor of industrial design at the University of Montreal . Since 2005 he has been the rector of the École de Design there.

In 1996 he founded the Society for Technological Arts (Société des Arts Technologiques) in Montréal. In 1997 he received the Gran Pix of the ICC Biennale in Tokyo and in 1999 he was honored with an award from the Prix ​​Ars Electronica for "Landscape One". He currently lives and works in Montreal .
