Lucas Schickhardt (goldsmith)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lucas Schickhardt (* around June 1, 1585 in Herrenberg ; † probably before 1613 in Mömpelgard ) was a goldsmith , painter and draftsman from Württemberg . He was a son of the builder Heinrich Schickhardt .

Life

Lucas Schickhardt was the eldest son of Heinrich Schickhardt and his wife Barbara geb. Groeninger. When the father went to Mömpelgard on behalf of the Duke (he had lived there officially since June 1600) to spend several years there, he took Lucas with him. There he learned the profession of goldsmith. During his apprenticeship, he made a tall cup with his father's coat of arms, which he kept until his death and which was mentioned in his inventory on sheet 158.

But Lucas was also a draftsman. Surely it was his father who taught him this skill. However, only one drawing, made in Stuttgart in 1606, shows a walking Artemis . The drawing, which is important as an invention, but is poorly executed, is an exact copy after a copper engraving by Hendrick Goltzius and it offers proof that the “ Spranger style ” found acceptance in the relatively resistant Württemberg at that time.
