Lucia Serena Rossi
Lucia Serena Rossi (born February 6, 1958 in Bologna ) is an Italian lawyer and judge . She has been a judge at the European Court of Justice (ECJ) since October 8, 2018 .
Career
Lucia Serena Rossi studied law at the University of Bologna , so she graduated summa cum laude in 1982 . A year earlier she obtained a diploma in European law in an intensive course at the Faculté de Droit Comparé of the French Université Robert Schuman Strasbourg . She then became a researcher at the private Italian economic research and consulting company Nosmisma , during which time she attended several courses and summer schools in Europe and the USA for further training. In 1985 she passed the Italian bar exam in Bologna and was admitted to the bar. In 1987, Lucia Serena Rossi completed an internship at the European Commission in the Internal Market department . Two years later she completed doctoral studies in European law at the University of Bologna, making it the doctor of jurisprudence doctorate .
From 1991 to 1994, Lucia Serena Rossi subsequently worked as an associate professor in the Department of International Law at the University of Urbino . In March 1994 she returned to her alma mater, the University of Bologna, where she received a research assignment in international law. From November 1994 she was also assistant professor for international law at the University of Urbino. In 1997 she accepted a position as assistant professor for international and European law at the University of Bologna. On November 1, 2000, Lucia Serena Rossi was finally appointed to a full professorship ( Professore Ordinario ) for European Union law at the Law Faculty of the University of Bologna. In the meantime she also accepted teaching positions as visiting professor at numerous universities in Europe and the USA. Since 1998 she has been Director of the International Research Center on European Law (CIRDE) at the University of Bologna.
On October 8, 2018, Lucia Serena Rossi was appointed judge at the European Court of Justice at the suggestion of the Italian government . She became the first woman in Italian legal history to be proposed for this high European judicial office. At the Court of Justice she replaced the resigned Italian judge and former Vice-President of the ECJ, Antonio Tizzano .
