Lucie Radová , b. Libuše Straková (born August 29, 1931 in Jičín , Czechoslovakia ; † March 24, 2016 in Sissach ) was a Czechoslovak- Swiss painter, book illustrator , organist and restorer .

Life

Libuše Straková was born on August 29, 1931 in Jičín as the daughter of the lawyer Stanislav Straka and the teacher Františka Straková. In 1953 she married Jiří Rada, with whom she moved to Prague in 1954 . In the same year she separated from him, but kept the name Radová. Around 1963, as part of the Communist Party's regulations that only party members were allowed to hold cadre positions, she lost her position as the managing editor of a Prague fashion magazine and was only able to survive thanks to temporary unskilled work. In 1968 she married Jaroslav Schilling. Together with him , she emigrated to Switzerland in November 1968 .

In Switzerland, Radová lived first in Basel , for a short time in Wittinsburg and then in Gelterkinden and Sissach , where she was able to expand her work as a painter. This was followed by exhibitions in the Basel area , in the Krause Gallery in Pfäffikon as well as in Paris and Marseille . Another activity were illustrations for works of Czech exile literature , especially for the INDEX publishing house.

In Gelterkinden, she and her husband Jaroslav Schilling ran the “RE” art gallery in a former “Hanro” factory, in which Czech and regional artists exhibited (Susanne Bader, Ruedi Kern, Silvio Caduff and others). Another activity besides painting and the gallery was for a time the regular publication of poetry in the publishing house "Edice Akt", which she ran jointly with her husband, in the form of bibliophilic little books.

In 1987 she separated from Jaroslav Schilling. After further training, she accepted the position as organist in some communities in the canton of Basel-Landschaft . At that time, she painted less and less and focused on restoring old paintings. She passed away at the age of 84.

Her work includes oil paintings , drawings, etchings , lithographs , sculptures , book illustrations and glass art.
