Ludovico Stanzani

Ludovico Stanzani ( Ukrainian Людвік Вікентійович Станзані , * 1793 in Rome ; † August 1872 in Kiev ) was a in Ukraine acting architect and art collector of Italian origin.

Life

Coming from an Italian aristocratic family, Stanzani was born in Rome in 1793. He studied at the University of Bologna and the San Giuseppe Art Academy in Rome. At the invitation of the Governor General of New Russia , Alexandre Andrault de Langeron , he and his father Vincenzo came to Odessa in 1821 , where he worked until 1828. From 1828 to 1832 he worked in Kamjanez-Podilskyj and was finally from 1833, in which he created a master plan for the city of Kiev in collaboration with Vincent Beretti and others , until 1847 city architect of Kiev. He died in Kiev in August 1872 at the age of 88.

His best-known, still-preserved building in Kiev is the Alexander Church , the oldest Roman Catholic church in the Ukrainian capital.
