Ludvík Ráža

Ludvík Ráža (born October 3, 1929 in Mukačevo , then Czechoslovakia ; † October 4, 2000 in Prague , Czech Republic ) was a Czech film director and screenwriter .

biography

After the Second World War , Ludvík Ráža graduated from high school in Prague and worked as a tutor in Cheb for a few years . From 1953 he studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and was employed by Czechoslovak television from 1958 to 1991. He made his debut as a film director in 1963 with the family television film Podivný pan Barnabášek, which he wrote . From 1964 he was the head of the youth film program division. That is why he became known in the German-speaking countries primarily for his youth films and fairy tale adaptations such as The Travel Comrade and Snow White and the Secret of the Dwarfs .

On October 4, 2000, one day after his 71st birthday, Ráža died of complications from his cancer . He was married once in his life. His daughter later also worked in film as a costume designer.
