Ludwig Becker (painter, 1914)
Ludwig Becker (born December 7, 1914 in Frankfurt am Main ; † December 29, 1971 there ) was a German painter .
Life
Ludwig Becker and his twin brother Bernhard grew up with their grandparents in Frankfurt am Main . After graduating from school in 1929 at the Spohr School in Frankfurt's Nordend, his first training was an apprenticeship as a decorative painter, which he completed in 1932 with the journeyman's examination. From 1933 to 1938 he studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. There he was a master student of Johann Vincenz Cissarz . At that time he was, like his brother Bernhard, active in the Catholic youth of the St. Bernhard parish in Frankfurt-Bornheim. In 1937 the Gestapo became aware of Bernhard Becker; he was arrested and treated so cruelly that he was driven to suicide in December 1937 .
From 1938 to 1946 Ludwig Becker was head of the department for artistic weaving and print design at the higher technical school for textile surface art in Krefeld , where he also led courses in industry and at the Krefeld Volksbildungswerk.
In 1951 he returned to Frankfurt am Main. There his works were exhibited in the Frankfurt art cabinet in 1952. From 1953 to 1956 he taught as a specialist teacher at the Gutenberg vocational school for graphics and interior design. His special concern was to improve the image of the visual arts in society. From 1963 to 1970 he was chairman of the professional association of fine artists Frankfurt e. V. and 1968 founding board member of the rights-collecting society VG Bild-Kunst.

Ludwig Becker was a versatile artist who used a wide variety of materials and techniques in his works. In addition to watercolors , drawings and oil paintings , he created numerous mosaics , glass windows and sgraffitos . His work was shaped by his Catholic faith.
