The St. Albert Church is a Roman Catholic church in the Dornbusch district of the city of Frankfurt am Main . She is the patron saint Albertus Magnus consecrated , a German scholar and bishop, who paved the way for the Christian Aristotelianism of the High Middle Ages was. It is one of five branch churches of the Catholic parish St. Franziskus-Frankfurt , which bears the name of St. Francis . The parish is led by the Franciscan Father Anto Batinic OFM and is also looked after by the Schoenstatt Fathers and a pastoral team .

history

20th century

founding

The community began in the Haus der Jugend at Hansaallee 150 when the first youth house on Dornbusch was occupied. The clergyman Georg W. Rudolphi, a former chaplain of the Frankfurt Cathedral , was appointed pastor vicar . With the planning of a church building, Rudolphi commissioned the architect and church builder Martin Weber , who built the church from 1937–1938. The foundation stone of the church was laid in 1937. St. Albert Church was consecrated on Palm Sunday in 1938 .

post war period

The construction of further housing estates in the Dornbusch district in 1956 required the church to be expanded by 16 meters from 32 to 48 meters in length, and the sanctuary was also widened. In 1960 the church was plastered. In addition, the altar furnishings and new benches and the 45 meter high bell tower and the rectory were completed. In 1962 the construction of the 45 meter high bell tower with three bells was completed. The church tower dominates the nave by far. The Catholic parish vicarie St. Albert was elevated to a parish in 1963.

With the addition of the architectural sculpture Christ - Peace and Salvation for All above the main portal, the simple church was artistically upgraded in 1988. The nave was first renovated in 1998.

21st century

On January 1, 2012, the parish boundaries within the Diocese of Limburg were redrawn as part of the willingness to move process. By decree of Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst , ten newly cut pastoral rooms were built in Frankfurt. From 2012, St. Albert belonged to the pastoral area of Frankfurt-Nordost , which also includes the parishes of St. Josef in Eschersheim , Sancta Familia in Ginnheim , Most Holy Trinity in Frankfurter Berg , Sacred Heart in Eckenheim , St. Christophorus in Preungesheim , the Berkersheim district as well as the Korean Catholic Congregation and the Syro-Malankara Catholics .

The parish of the new type St. Franziskus Frankfurt was created in 2015 from the pastoral space . This includes the centralization of certain tasks, such as the parish office .
