Ludwig Colani

Ludwig Colani (* around 1870; † around 1924) was a German actor , director and theater director with a remarkable career in German silent film in the 1910s.

Life

Colani's exact life dates are currently unknown. He began his career in 1890 at the Torgau City Theater . The following year he went on tour as the director of his own touring theater. In 1892 he was brought to Plauen in the subject 'hero lover and bon vivant' , in 1893 to Glogau in Silesia , in 1895 to Zittau , the following year to Cottbus and in 1897 to Metz in Lorraine .

In 1899, Ludwig Colani made his capital city debut at the Berliner Residenz Ensemble. After a stopover in Tilsit (1901/02) he went on tour as an actor and director. In 1905 he returned to Berlin and performed with the Adolf Behle Ensemble. In 1906 he went on tour to St. Petersburg . After being engaged in Forst in 1907/08 , Colani, meanwhile winner of the Imperial Turkish Medal for Art and Science, worked at the Düsseldorf comedy theater from 1909 to 1912 .

During this time, Ludwig Colani worked intensively in front of the camera for Berlin film companies. Nevertheless, Colani remained connected to the theater. In 1915/16 he went to the Potsdamer Volkstheater Nowawes as senior director . Colani was then drafted and deployed to the front theater on the western front.

Shortly after the end of the war, he worked again at Berlin venues such as the Walhalla Theater. His last stage engagement in 1922/23 led to employment as a stage manager at the Deutsches Theater in Süd America AG. Ludwig Colani died in 1923 or 1924. His son was the actor Victor Colani .
