Ludwig Ernstsson (born April 29, 1972 ) is a former Swedish football player . The striker made his career in Sweden, Norway and Austria.

Career

Ernstsson comes from the youth of Östers IF , where he started playing football at the age of six. Then he went through the various youth teams before he made his debut in the Allsvenskan in the course of the regular round of the first division season in 1992 . In the following season, although still mainly supplementary player, he came on the side of Hans Eklund , Jesper Jansson and Peter Wibrån more often and scored his first league goal. In the 1994 season he finally became a regular player and was one of the league's top scorers with eleven goals this season. After two more seasons he left the club.

The Norwegian club Kongsvinger IL had noticed Ernstsson and brought the striker into the Tippeligaen . At the side of Bjørn Berland , Arnfinn Engerbakk , Sven Erik Sætre and Jon Inge Høiland , he reached sixth place with the team and thus moved into the UEFA Intertoto Cup . In the following season he slipped into the relegation battle with the club, but he had to pause due to injury during the season.

Frank Stronach paid between 6.5 and 7.2 million schillings in September 1998 for the transfer rights to Ernstsson. He then made this available free of charge to FK Austria Wien, which he sponsored . Conceived as a complement to Christian Mayrleb , he could not fulfill the hopes placed in him. In 2000 he returned to Östers IF at an early stage, and in the later election for Austrian Footballer of the Year with one vote he was in last place.

For Östers IF he ran in the second class Superettan . While he had to help with his goals against relegation to third division in the first two seasons, he was crowned top scorer in the 2002 season with 18 goals this season. He helped the team to the second division championship and the associated promotion to the Allsvenskan. In the first division season of 2003 he only came to three short appearances as a substitute due to injury and then ended his active career.

Ernstsson initially took over a coaching position in the youth division of Östers IF. In 2009 he became an assistant coach at the club. When Andreas Ottosson stepped down from his position in July 2010, he succeeded him as the chief coach. However, after he remained without a win in the 2010 second division season , the club released him from his duties in September and replaced him with Hans Gren .
