Ludwig Frankmar (born August 10, 1960 in Falun ) is a Swedish baroque cellist.

Life

Frankmar comes from a Swedish family of church musicians . After studying with Guido Vecchi at the Malmö University of Music , he was an orchestral musician at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and a soloist at the Gothenburg Opera . After studying with Thomas Demenga at the Music Academy of the City of Basel , he was solo cellist with the Camerata Bern . In 1995 he left the orchestra profession. The new music attached, he finally came through contact with church musicians for early music and historical performance practice . From 1999 to 2001 he studied early music at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. His five-string baroque cello was built by Louis Guersan in Paris in 1756, the year Mozart was born . His repertoire ranges from renaissance music to early classical music . The similarity between a five-string baroque cello and a viola da gamba allows him to perform works from the viol literature, among others by Diego Ortiz , Marin Marais and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach . He also works with other baroque musicians and gives concerts several times a week all over Germany, especially in churches. He lives in Berlin and has been a member of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer congregation in Berlin-Lankwitz since 2017 . He is married and gives concerts with the church musician and singer Jana Czekanowski-Frankmar.
