Ludwig Hilmar Kresse

Ludwig Hilmar Kresse (born January 7, 1914 in Herrenalb ; † June 18, 1985 in Stuttgart ) was a German civil engineer and architect . From 1967 to 1977 he was rector of the Technical College in Stuttgart.

Life

During the Second World War, Kresse served as an officer (most recently as major in the reserve) in the 4th Mountain Division of the Wehrmacht . On November 18, 1944, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.

In the years after the end of the war, he initially worked as an architect. After completing his habilitation , he took over the management of the building construction department at the State Engineering School in Stuttgart in 1963. Four years later he succeeded Karl Gonser in the office of director of the school. With Kresse at the top, the facility was converted into a technical college and the range of training courses was significantly expanded.

Several large buildings in Baden-Württemberg were made by Kresse . In the 1950s, he and Wilhelm Tiedje built the new town hall in Friedrichshafen . In 1965 he planned the extension of the Waldorf School in Tübingen . The Wüstenrot skyscraper was built between 1972 and 1974 based on his designs in Ludwigsburg .
