Ludwig Munzinger junior

Ludwig Werner Munzinger (born February 24, 1921 in Weingarten ; † April 7, 2012 in Ravensburg ) was a German publisher and publicist . In 1957 he took over the management of the Munzinger Archive from his father Ludwig Munzinger senior .

Life

Munzinger junior spent his youth and school days in Dresden from 1930 and attended the Realgymnasium Blasewitz . In 1939 he graduated from high school there and then did labor service at a building unit that also took part in the attack on Poland . He then studied law, first at the University of Leipzig and in 1940 in Munich . Interrupted has been studying, as Munzinger in February 1941 to a signal corps of the armed forces was confiscated. From June 1941 he took part in the Russian campaign in Ukraine and Crimea with the intelligence service . In 1944 Munzinger came to Leipzig for officer training and was deployed in December for the last offensive in the west . In 1946 Munzinger was taken prisoner by the Americans from which he was released to the Soviet-occupied zone . As Munzinger was an officer, this meant that Munziger was again taken prisoner by the Soviets . He spent several years in camps on the construction site near Rostov and in underground coal mining in the Donets Basin . His experiences from this time, which lasted until the end of 1949, he later published in the book Am Rande des Lebens: Aufschriften über d. Captivity; 1945-1949 . Munzinger continued his studies in 1950 at the University of Tübingen . In 1951 he married Maria, with whom he had four children. In 1955 Munzinger worked in a law firm. After the death of his father, Munzinger took over the management of the Munzinger archive, a loose-leaf collection that is constantly updated . His son Ernst (* 1953) in turn took over the management of the Munzinger archive in 1988.

Munzinger was a member of the CDU and was a member of the municipal council of the city of Ravensburg from 1963 to 1965. He was a member of the Corps Franconia Munich and Suevia Tübingen .

Ludwig Munzinger junior died in 2012 and was buried in the main cemetery in Ravensburg.
