Ludwig Philipp Behlen (born May 2, 1714 in Duderstadt ; † June 22, 1777 ) was a German priest and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Mainz .

Life

Ludwig Philipp Behlen was ordained a priest on September 10, 1737 . In 1746 Behlen became professor of canon law at the University of Mainz , then electoral clergy , sub-rain of the seminary , at that time still in the old Jesuit novitiate , and most recently Mainz auxiliary bishop .

During his time at the university, he was best known for his ecclesiastical legal practice, which had a lasting impact on the ecclesiastical landscape of the time. At the time he was considered to be moderately enlightening , later, especially after the re-establishment of the diocese of Mainz , he fell into disrepute because of his attitude and then was forgotten. The Martinus Library of the Diocese of Mainz preserves his journalistic, scientific and administrative legacy.

On September 11, 1769 he was named titular bishop of Domitiopolis and appointed auxiliary bishop. The episcopal ordination took place on December 17, 1769 by Archbishop Emmerich Joseph von Breidbach zu Bürresheim .
