Ludwig Popper

Ludwig Popper (born February 20, 1904 in Vienna , † August 10, 1984 in Oberwart ) was an Austrian doctor and social medicine specialist .

Ludwig Popper grew up in Paris and Zurich . In 1927 he received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Vienna . Until 1936 Popper was an internist at the Vienna General Hospital . His habilitation was rejected in 1938 because of his Jewish origin (and could only be made up in 1948).

After the connection of Austria to the German Reich he succeeded with his family via Switzerland to flee to Bolivia . After eight years in the Bolivian military medical service, he returned to Vienna in 1947. There he worked as a doctor until 1970 and was appointed associate professor in 1963.

In 2005 his son Lutz Popper published his memoirs.
