Ludwig Quessel
Ludwig Quessel (born July 1, 1872 in Königsberg i. Pr. , † February 14, 1931 in Darmstadt ) was a German journalist, publicist and social democrat.
Life
Quessel's father was an unskilled worker. After elementary school he himself did an apprenticeship as a watchmaker's assistant. Its subsequent educational development is unclear. He began studying in 1898 and was awarded a doctorate in political science in 1903 . Since then he has worked as an employee of social democratic and bourgeois newspapers and magazines. In 1907 he became editor of the SPD organ Hessischer Volksfreund and permanent employee of the socialist monthly books . He was responsible for foreign policy. He also worked for newspapers in Königsberg, Danzig , Offenbach am Main , Stettin and Darmstadt . He wrote numerous essays and writings on political issues and on folk and social science. In Königsberg he founded the Kant reading club . Member of the SPD since 1890 , he was elected to the Reichstag (German Empire) in 1912. He sat in the Weimar National Assembly in 1919/20 and then in the Reichstag (Weimar Republic) until 1930 . He died at the age of 58.
