Ludwig Volz

Ludwig Volz (* 1934 in Chemnitz ; † August 17, 2011 in Mundenheim ) was a German theologian , religious educator and biblical theological author .

Life

Volz studied Catholic theology at the University of Innsbruck , among others with Karl and Hugo Rahner . On 20 March 1960 he received the Speyer Cathedral , the priesthood and served as chaplain active in the parish of St. Bernard in Speyer. He completed his studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and worked at the Institute for Catechetics and Homiletics in 1966. Volz was then a lecturer and from 1973 professor for religious educationat the seminary in Speyer and also taught at the catechetical institute in Munich. In 1991, for health reasons, he switched to the position of commissioner for biblical theological work in the diocese of Speyer and set up the “Department for promoting Bible study for the renewal of faith”. In 2003 he retired.

As an elected member of the Joint Synod of the German Dioceses in Würzburg (1971/75), he was the initiator of the synodal resolution “Religious instruction in schools”.

From March 2001 he published a monthly biblical treatise on the Internet, as well as numerous books and publications for religious education. His five-volume work “Religion in the Secondary School”, which he developed with Willi Stengelin, was the standard work in religious education.

Volz had been a member of the K.Ö.HV Leopoldina Innsbruck in the ÖCV since 1956 . He was a founding member of the KDSt.V. Vasgovia in the CV zu Landau (1960) and the KDSt.V. Merowingia in the CV of Kaiserslautern (1970).
