Ludwig Wilhelm Karl Norbert Theodor Johann Herzog in Bavaria (born January 17, 1884 at Tegernsee Castle , †  November 5, 1968 in Wildbad Kreuth ) was a Bavarian nobleman .

Life

Ludwig Wilhelm was the first son of Duke Carl Theodor in Bavaria and his second wife Marie José of Portugal .

On March 19, 1917, he married Princess Eleonore Anna Lucie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (1880-1965), the daughter of Prince Franz zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Julia Cavalcanti d'Albuquerque de Villeneuve in Kreuth . Eleonore was the widow of Prince Otto Victor II von Schönburg, who fell near Reims in 1914 . The marriage remained childless.

Duke Ludwig Wilhelm and his wife emigrated from Germany in 1938 to avoid being arrested by the SS . They fled to the USA via Belgium, where his older sister Elisabeth was Queen.

Duke Ludwig Wilhelm was friends with the writer Ludwig Thoma and promoted the folk music collector Kiem Pauli .

After the death of his wife (February 20, 1965) Ludwig Wilhelm adopted the grandson of his sister Marie Gabriele , Max Emanuel .

Ludwig Wilhelm died on November 5, 1968 in Wildbad Kreuth.
