Prince Otto Victor II was the son of Hereditary Prince Otto Karl Victor von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1856-1888) and Princess Lucia zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (1859-1903). Between 1907 and 1910 he undertook several trips and hunting expeditions which he a. a. led to Palestine, Egypt, Sudan and Abyssinia. Otto Victor brought back numerous hunting trophies and art treasures from his travels, which were later presented to the public as exhibits in the art-historically significant collections of the Waldenburg Castle Museum.

As head of the Schönburg-Waldenburg line, Otto Victor succeeded his grandfather Otto Friedrich von Schönburg-Waldenburg as the owner of the lordships of Waldenburg (Saxony) , Lichtenstein and Stein , the manors Belgershain and Pomßen as well as various non-Saxon possessions. Interested in representation and magnificence, Otto Victor had Waldenburg Castle extensively rebuilt and expanded from 1909 to 1912 . The extremely successful, albeit very expensive project was carried out by the architects Hofbaurat Gustav Frölich and Willy Meyer , both from Dresden.

Otto Victor was a member of the First Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament and represented the interests of the Schönburg House as a whole. The successful candidacy of his brother-in-law, Prince Wilhelm zu Wied, for the vacant Albanian throne, which Prince Otto Victor II had supported, also helped the Schönburg family to gain increased attention across Europe. On February 23, 1914, Prince Otto Victor received the official Albanian deputation from the throne under Essad Pascha at Waldenburg Castle. During the First World War, Prince Otto Victor fought on the Western Front, where he was killed on September 14, 1914 while exploring near Reims .
