Ludwig von Nagel
Ludwig von Nagel (zu Aichberg) (born March 29, 1836 in Weilheim ; † September 8, 1899 in Krailling ) was a German horse painter , caricaturist and founder of the Netherlands Artists' Association .
His parents were the pharmacist's daughter Johanna Klieber and the royal Bavarian. District Court Assessor Anton Wilhelm von Nagel. After attending school in Regensburg and Amberg , he joined the Bavarian Army as a cadet in 1852 . He ended his military career in 1877 for health reasons in the rank of majors . Even as a schoolboy, Nagel was a gifted autodidact , especially with caricatures. During his military service, Nagel also made a name for himself as a horse painter. He worked for the Fliegende Blätter and the Munich Bilderbogen .
Inspired by the knight leagues of the Romantic era , Nagel founded the artists 'association “Mahlkasten” in Bayreuth as the first of other artists' associations that are grouped under the name Allniederlandt. The Antwerp Guild of Luke was the direct model for language and clothing . As a member of the artists' association, he carried the stage name Adrian van Os (Oos).
