history

With the exception of the company commander, the cadre personnel came from the former Luftlandepionierkompanie 9 Munich . With simultaneous relocation to Kempten (Allgäu) with effect from April 1, 1959, this company was dissolved and the cadre for the new parachute pioneer companies 250 and 260 as well as that of the Airborne Engineer Battalion 9 was formed from it. For this purpose, the Airborne Engineer Company 9 had to form two “packages” of personnel for the parachute engineer companies and to report them to the 1st Airborne Division . The division decided which of these “packages” was used for which company.

The training focuses initially on infantry combat training and combined arms combat, combat shooting, house-to-house combat, blasting, mine fighting, creating and clearing barriers, translating during war with assault boats and rubber dinghies and, until 1997, training soldiers for use in the former Yugoslavia.

On April 1, 1959, the company was set up in the Kempten location in the Prinz-Franz-Kaserne according to Fü H II 1 (8) as parachute pioneer company 260 in the F strength : 3/27/84/114 . Between Christmas and New Year 1960, the company moved on a motor vehicle march to Mannheim to the Liège barracks, which were not yet ready for occupancy (floors, doors and windows were still missing). The recruits called up for January 1961 were still dressed in Kempten and followed up by Fw Trinkaus. The first motor vehicle accident in the company's history occurred when the driver of a Mercedes overtook an icy road and crashed head-on into the Borgward bucket driving at the front. The Mercedes driver died at the scene of the accident.

On February 1, 1963, the 9th Luftlandepionierbataillon and Luftlandepionierkompanie 260 moved from Bruchsal to Speyer in new barracks in Speyer-Nord . On May 1, 1966, the barracks in Speyer were given the name Kurpfalzkaserne . On February 1, 1963, the invasion took place in the barracks in order Airborne Engineer Battalion 9, parachute artillery battalion 265, parachute pioneer company 260. The commander of the Airborne Engineer Battalion 9 was the first location elder of the garrison.

On October 1, 1971, the parachute pioneer company 260 was reclassified and renamed the air landing pioneer company 260. In 1972 the company moved to Saarlouis. On April 1, 1982 (Army Structure 4), the company was used as a cadre for the newly established Paratrooper Battalion 263 , disbanded and in April Koblenz reorganized from a pioneer platoon of the heavy engineer battalion 310, the III. Corps as well as the engineer battalion 310 and assigned to the airborne brigade 26 only for combat exercises.

On April 1, 1990, the company became an independent unit again. She was placed under the 26th Airborne Brigade on April 9, 1990 . In 1992, the AMF platoon from the 310 heavy engineer battalion was incorporated into the company. In December 1994 the company from Koblenz moved "back" to the old company building in the Graf Werder barracks in Saarlouis. With the daily order of July 18, 1998 Army Command - under the command (Lieutenant General Drews) - the company was released from the AMF order and expressed its special thanks and appreciation for the always safe and reliable fulfillment of the order. On March 21, 2002 the company in Saarlouis announced itself in pouring rain with effect from September 30, 2002 after 43 years and 6 months from the German army and disbanded on June 30, 2002 in the course of the restructuring of the Bundeswehr.

On April 2, 2004, the Airborne Engineer Company 260 was put back into service.

coat of arms

Three symbolic elements are included in the coat of arms. The parachute symbolizes belonging to the paratrooper troops and the pioneer bridge represents belonging and solidarity with the pioneer troops. On the one hand, the background color blue stylizes the element of water, with which the pioneers deal on a daily basis, and on the other hand, the blue background represents the sky from the perspective of the paratroopers.

assignment

The Airborne Pioneer Company 270 (LLPiKp 270) supports the task forces with direct pioneer support in operations for conflict prevention and crisis management, as well as national defense and alliance defense in the context of networked, joint armed forces and multinational operations of allied forces in the entire intensity spectrum. The company is primarily used for direct pioneer support in special land operations, especially in air-maneuvering, rescue and evacuation operations against irregular and covert forces, operations in the urban environment and operations in depth, as well as in rapid initial and final operations. The air landing pioneer company is fully mobile and parts can be air-loaded or air-loaded.

The LLPiKp 270 is set up for the following tasks:

1. National and Alliance Defense

2. Fast initial and final operations

3. military evacuation operations

4. Civil protection within the framework of administrative assistance

history

The LLPiKp 270 has a historical peculiarity that does not exist so often in the history of the German army. The path of the Luftlandpionierkompanie led from the Ruhr (established in 1973 in Iserlohn), over the Weser (1982 Minden) and the Hunte (1992 Wildeshausen, merged with the Panzerpionierkompanie 310) to the Oste in the Rotenburg-Wümme district.

The roots of the LLPiKp 270 go back to 1958, when the Pioneer Battalion 1 was set up in Doldendorf, which later became the Pioneer Battalion 110 after being relocated to Minden. In 1973 the LLPiKp 270, belonging to Airborne Brigade 27 , was set up for the first time in Iserlohn . However, the company was disbanded nine years later in 1982 to be reorganized with the 3rd Company of Pioneer Battalion 110. The LLPiKp 270 from Iserlohn delivered the airland-specific material and the 3rd company brought the bulk of the personnel with them. The 2nd company of Pioneer Battalion 1, which after moving to Minden became the 3rd / 110th, was now the company from which the LLPiKp 270 emerged in 1982.

With the reclassification to Army Structure 5 in 1993, the company moved to Wildeshausen in the Oldenburger Land in order to support Airborne Brigade 31 in pioneer-specific issues. In 1994 the 1st Airborne Division merged with the 4th Panzer Grenadier Division (PzGrenDiv) to form Command Air Mobile Forces / 4th Division. Many units of the 4th PzGrenDiv, such as the Panzergrenadierbrigade 31 (PzGrenBrig 31), were completely or partially disbanded or reclassified into other units. The independent engineer company 310 of PzGrenBrig 31 was dissolved in March 1993 together with Airborne Brigade 27 and reclassified into the new Airborne Brigade 31. After the brigade was disbanded and LLBrig 31 was reorganized, LLPiKp 270 took over the assignment from pioneer company 310, and parts of PzPiKp were incorporated into LLPiKp 270.

On April 1, 2001, the 4th Division was reclassified to the Special Operations Division (DSO). The new structure had a major impact on LLPiKp 270. With the reclassification to a division unit, this time not associated with a move, the company was now directly subordinate to the DSO. Due to the spatial separation to Regensburg, however, the company was routed through LLBrig 31 for service purposes. The new structure also included the dissolution of LLPiKp 260 in Saarlouis in 2002. This meant that LLPiKp 270 was the only company of its kind in the Bundeswehr to provide pioneering support for the division. With the reclassification to divisional unit, not only the subordination relationship changed for the company. The structure and equipment were significantly adapted to the new order (see current order LLPiKp 270). With a "heavy" machine train, the company had four instead of the previous three air landing machine trains. Each of these platoons had its own ordnance clearance troops (KmpfMAbwTrp) as well as additional pioneer equipment, which enabled the platoon leader to support the paratroopers and special forces better and more versatile than before. Since then, the company has been able to provide advice to both airborne brigades of the DSO with two support cells. In addition to the most modern weapons such as the G22 and laser sights for the G36, the company has also had the MUNGO transport vehicles and the Pioneer Exploration Weasel II at its disposal since then.

The LLPiKp 270 was thus equipped for support and advice in all possible deployment options of both airborne brigades of the DSO. In Wildeshausen it was curious whether and how long they would remain the only LLPiKp of the Bundeswehr and the division. The company was aware of the responsibility that automatically goes hand in hand with such an exposed position, both in its “own” pioneer group and in the DSO. Fortunately, on April 2, 2004, the Airborne Pioneer Company 260 in Saarlouis was put back into service.

With the location decision from 2004, which the then Federal Minister of Defense Dr. Peter Struck decided that the LLPiKp 270 was relocated to its current location in Seedorf, Fallschirmjäger-Kaserne. The Bundeswehr location Wildeshausen was closed. The relocation of the company was completed in February 2007.

At the beginning of 2014 the DSO was reclassified to the Rapid Forces Division (DSK). In addition, Airborne Brigade 1 was set up on April 1, 2015 through the reclassification of LLBrig 26 and the incorporation of parts of LLBrig 31. Since then, all airborne units from Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland have been subordinate to this newly established brigade, with headquarters in Saarlouis, which is why the subordination relationship of the LLPiKp 270 has changed once again.

Since 1997 the LLPiKp 270 has proven itself in many exercises and assignments (see following sections). This began in the Balkans as part of the Stabilization Force (SFOR) in 1997 and has continued over the years. In the period from 2007 to 2013, the company was deployed in a troop framework or as a closed company in Afghanistan. From Kabul to Mazsar-e-Sharif and Kunduz to Feyzabad, the Kp with its many specialists and experts has proven itself. During the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission, experience was continuously gained and procedures improved.

These experiences then flowed into the follow-up missions in 2018. The anti-war train (light) of the LLPiKp 270 provided direct ordnance support for the 7th and 8th All Sources Information Fusion Unit U (ASIFU) operations in all operations of the German forces in the Gao Mali area. In addition, the officers of the company command at the European Union Training Mission (EUTM) in Koulikoro / Mali trained Malian forces. Further officers of the company command provided training support for Iraqi and Kurdish soldiers during the 10th German contingent in Erbil / Northern Iraq and the 1st and 2nd contingent Counter Daesh / Capacity Building in Erbil / Iraq.
