Gaspare Antonio Pietro "Luigi" Gatti (born January 3, 1875 in Montalto Pavese (Italy), died April 15, 1912 in the North Atlantic when the Titanic sank ) was an Italian businessman, best known as the manager of the à la carte restaurant on the RMS Titanic .

Life

Gatti was one of eleven children and the son of Paolo Gatti, a local justice of the peace. In 1902 he married Edith Kate Cheese, from this marriage they had a son, Luigi Victor, "Vittorio", who was born in 1904.

Gatti owned and operated two restaurants in London, Gatti's Adelphi and Gatti's Strand, and one at RMS Olympic . Due to the success of this ship's restaurant , he was able to open an even larger restaurant on the Titanic with over 150 seats and over 60 employees, mostly Italian and French, all of whom were directly employed by Gatti, who operated the restaurants on the basis of concessions. Only first class passengers were allowed to use the restaurants. The offer of being able to take meals in the general dining room independently of the standard menu sequences and the fixed table times was particularly attractive for the wealthiest and most prominent passengers.

Gatti died on April 15, 1912 when the Titanic sank . His body was recovered from the CS Minia between April 26 and May 6, 1912 and buried in Fairview Cemetery , Halifax, Nova Scotia , Canada.
