Luigi Sepiacci

Luigi Sepiacci OESA (born September 12, 1835 in Castiglione del Lago as Domenico Daniele Sepiacci , † April 26, 1893 in Rome ) was an Italian Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Domenico Daniele Sepiacci joined the Augustinian order in 1851, took the name Luigi and made profession in June of the following year . On May 29, 1858, he was ordained a priest through Vincenzo Gioacchino Pecci , later Pope Leo XIII . In 1870 he became a theology professor in Rome. In 1874 Sepiacci became a partner of the Catholic Academy before he was promoted to General Procurator of the Augustinian Order in February 1880.

Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on March 15, 1883 titular bishop of Callinicum . The episcopal ordination donated him three days later Cardinal Vicar Raffaele Monaco La Valletta ; Co-consecrators were Giulio Lenti and François Marinelli , both auxiliary bishops in Rome. On August 7, 1885 Leo XIII appointed him. as President of the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy . In June 1886, Sepiacci finally became secretary of the Congregation for Religious Affairs .

In the consistory of December 14, 1891 Leo XIII took him. as cardinal priest of Santa Prisca to the College of Cardinals . On August 1, 1892, Cardinal Sepiacci became Prefect of the Congregation for Relics and Indulgences . He died just a year later at the age of only 57. He was first buried in the Roman cemetery Campo Verano . On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of his death in 1938 the bones were transferred to his titular church, Santa Prisca .
