Luis Antonio García Navarro

Luis Antonio García Navarro (born April 30, 1941 in Chiva , Valencia Province , † October 10, 2001 in Madrid ) was a Spanish conductor .

Life

García Navarro began his musical education at the Conservatories of Valencia and Madrid. In Vienna he studied conducting with Hans Swarowsky , Karl Österreicher and Reinhold Schmid .

From 1970 to 1974 García Navarro was Music Director of the Valencia Symphony Orchestra, and from 1976 to 1978 of the Portuguese Radio Symphony Orchestra. He was general music director of the Württemberg State Theater in Stuttgart from 1987 to 1991. From 1997 until his death in 2001 he was general music director of the Teatro Real in Madrid and at the same time titular conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid . He was considered one of the most important contemporary conductors in Spain.
