history
In 1883 Maximilian von Heyl had the Luther collection assembled in a short time by the bookseller Julius Stern, who was active in Worms . He is said to have paid 32,000 marks for it. Where Julius Stern got the prints from can only be partially understood. A part probably came from the antiquarian bookshop of Theodor Oswald Weigel (1812–1881) in Leipzig. Julius Stern wrote a catalog about it that contained 489 catalog numbers. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Luther's birthday, Maximilian von Heyl then donated the city of Worms ' collection , which it initially exhibited in the “Paulus Museum” . For this purpose, a "Luther room" was set up here, which was designed by the Munich decorator Lorenz Gedon on behalf of Maximilian von Heyl . Later there were further donations to the collection, for example by the Mainz cathedral chapter , art expert and book collector Friedrich Schneider . Today the collection is kept in the city library.

Remarks
- ↑ This edition is a compilation of partial translations from Wittenberg and Zurich that were already available at that time .
- ↑ Martin Luther's Wittenberg German Mass did not appear until 1526. This form and order of the Evangelical Deutz Masses, as held in Worms, is two years older and also the only copy documented worldwide (Diekamp: Luther Library , p. 10).
