The church

The Protestant Luther Church is in the Jesuborn district of the city of Ilmenau in the Ilm district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish of Gehren in the parish of Arnstadt-Ilmenau of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

There was already a chapel there in the 16th century . A stone worked into the church wall bears the year 1614, the baptismal font the year 1618. In 1690 Jesuborn separated from the Gehrener church and became independent.

On November 15, 1755, the tower button was renewed and provided with documents, also in the course of its gilding in 1794 and in 1870.

During a repair in 1816, it was decided to rebuild the church . During the demolition, a buried body was found with a sword and spurs . The foundation stone was laid on September 16, 1816 and the topping-out ceremony took place on September 23, during a prayer session . On June 4, 1818, the roofers completed the roofing work with slate .

In 1868 a hurricane bent the spire . The parish established a new cemetery in the Leidengarten in 1869. In 1882 the church got a lightning rod . In 1894 a baptismal font was purchased. Renovation and repair work was carried out around 1900. Windows, cafeteria and church were repaired. In 1915 the bells were melted down for the war, in 1917 this happened with the organ prospect and the lightning rod.

In 1920 the clock weight struck the last bell . In 1924 the church was fitted with electric lights, and in 1928 the bell tower .

The demolition of the nearby ammunition depot after the Second World War severely damaged the interior furnishings, which were set up between 1931 and 1936.

In 1951 the tower button was loaded again. A small community room was set up and the morgue built by the sanctuary. The bell tower was torn down, the roof covered and a new bell from Dörnfeld was bought. In 1972 the altar was stabilized . In 1993 the roof was made smaller and new windows were installed.

In the course of the 175th anniversary in 1994, new electrical lighting and new windows were installed and the surrounding area was beautified.

organ

In 1793 Caspar Holland from Schmiedefeld built an organ . On October 10, 1819, the newly decorated organ was installed from the old church. The following works are known:

  • 1891: the local organ builder Karl Frosch repairs the organ
  • 1895: the church underwent a thorough renovation, the organ here should have received its current color scheme.
  • 1898: a new organ motor was installed
  • 1917: The organ's prospect pipes had to be delivered for war purposes.
  • 1925: Organ builder Frosch added new prospect pipes made of zinc to the prospectus.
