Lutz Heidemann (born May 29, 1938 in Dresden ) is a German architect , urban planner and construction clerk who worked as an urban planner and preservationist in the municipal building administration of the city of Gelsenkirchen until his retirement . Early on, he became involved as a building and city historian in Gelsenkirchen and the Ruhr area . His work made a lasting contribution to the preservation of some interesting buildings in Gelsenkirchen.

Life

In 1957, after fleeing the GDR , Lutz Heidemann began studying architecture with the minor subjects art history , history and sociology at the Technical University of Aachen . He graduated as a graduate engineer in 1967. After working in an architecture office in Bielefeld and working as a research assistant in the department for social sciences at the Ruhr University in Bochum , he moved to the planning office of the city of Gelsenkirchen in 1972. He worked there until 2000 as head of the preparatory land-use planning department and as deputy head of office. In 1977 he was awarded a dissertation entitled “Group-specific living behavior. Results of a sociological study architecture in Bochum-Querenburg. " To Dr. rer. soc. PhD .

Services

Due to his professional experience in urban planning and his private interest in art history, building history and monument preservation, his commitment to the preservation and appropriate conversion of monuments and other urban areas in Gelsenkirchen developed. Under his leadership, design and conservation statutes were drawn up for a large number of settlements . During the Emscher Park International Building Exhibition, which was held from 1989 to 1999 , he was involved in several Gelsenkirchen projects. This also included the urban renewal area Bismarck / Schalke-Nord. Heidemann set a special accent here with public relations work on the history of the district in the form of city tours. In the Bismarck district, signs with information on the history of their origins and use were attached to over 30 buildings from 2000. Similar actions will be continued by him in the city center and in Gelsenkirchen-Hassel. Fearing that important Gelsenkirchen buildings would be demolished or not used in accordance with the preservation order , he not only addressed the public with lectures, public guided tours and scientific papers, but also got involved in citizens' initiatives and non-profit associations for the preservation of monuments. Mention should be made of his many years of board work at the following associations:
