Lutz Mommartz

Lutz Mommartz (born March 6, 1934 in Erkelenz ) is a German film director (participation, direction, screenplay, camera, editing, music, producer, production management, recording manager).

Life

Mommartz moved to Düsseldorf with his parents in 1937 . From 1952 to 1975 he worked for the local city administration. Since 1967, when he said goodbye to painting, Mommartz began making 16mm films. In the same year he received a film award that was recognized worldwide at the international experimental film festival in Knocke-le-Zoute with his film Selbstschüsse . On October 1, 1975, he founded a film class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, department for art educators in Münster. In 1977 he received the Federal Film Prize in silver for As Was von Beckett and in 1978 for The Garden of Eden . In 1978 he took over the professorship for film at what is now the Art Academy in Münster . He has been working on handing over his archive since 2016.

Today Mommartz lives and works in Düsseldorf, from 2001 to 2011 also in Berlin.
