Lutz Schülbe (born November 9, 1961 ) is a former German soccer player. He won the GDR Cup twice with Dynamo Dresden and played 16 times for the GDR youth national team.

Career in football

Dynamo Dresden

Schülbe played for the Dynamo Eisleben police sports club until the summer of 1981 , most recently in the second-rate GDR league . For the 1981/82 season he brought top division Dynamo Dresden, second force next to the Berlin FC Dynamo in the GDR Police Sports Association Dynamo , to the Elbe. The 1.72 m tall Schülbe, a carpenter by trade, was already used in the first league game of this season: In the encounter between Dynamo Dresden and Forward Frankfurt (1-0), he replaced center forward Torsten Gütschow in the 75th minute . With him Schülbe delivered a duel over the course of the season for a regular place in the team, in which Schülbe was able to prevail in the second half of the season as a right winger. In his first league season he came in the 26 point games on 20 missions and scored four goals. As right winger, Schülbe was also in the final of the GDR soccer cup on May 1, 1982 , until he was replaced by his rival Gütschow in the 75th minute. Dresden won on penalties 5-4 over BFC Dynamo. Schülbe gained his first international experience in two brief appearances in the 1981/82 UEFA Cup . Between April 1982 and February 1984 he also played 16 international matches with the GDR youth national team, in which he was used as a winger, but only scored one goal.

In the following league seasons Schülbe lost his regular place again and only played for Dynamo in the league until December 1984. Of the 65 league games between summer 1982 and autumn 1984, he played only 38. In the cup final on May 26, 1984 , which Dresden won 2-1 again over the BFC, he was only on the field in the last 23 minutes. A year later he was no longer in the cup final (Dynamo Dresden - BFC Dynamo 3: 2). In the summer of 1985 Schülbe left SG Dynamo Dresden with a record of 58 league appearances in which he had scored eleven goals. In the nine European Cup games during his time in Dresden, Schülbe was used in seven matches.

Hallescher FC

On July 1, 1985, Schülbe joined Hallesches FC Chemie (HFC) , which had been relegated from the league a year earlier. He played the first nine GDR league games in a row as a right striker, but injured himself on matchday 9 and then had to sit out for the rest of the season. It was only on the 34th and final match day that he was able to play again as a substitute. In the following season 1986/87 he was able to meet the expectations of the Saalestädter, played 30 of the 34 point games in the GDR league and was top scorer of league season B with 18 championship goals. He was also one of the main forces in the promotion to the league. Also in the following four league seasons Schülbe was one of the pillars of the team. In the 104 point games played between 1987 and 1991, he was missing only eleven games and with his 26 goals was the most accurate player in Halle. With his 13 goals in the 1990/91 season he made a significant contribution to HFC qualifying for the 2nd Bundesliga and the UEFA Cup.

2nd Bundesliga

When he started playing professional football in the 1991/92 season, Schülbe was already 29 years old. At first he was able to keep up well in the 2nd Bundesliga, until October 1991 he played 13 of the 15 point games as an attacker and was also in the two UEFA Cup games against Torpedo Moscow (2-1, 0-3). In the first leg, he got the goal to the 2-0 intermediate result. In the rest of the season, Schülbe was only used in seven point games, including five times as a substitute. However, along with Wosz and Wüllbier, he was part of the trio that scored the most goals for the HFC with five goals each. The HFC did not survive its entry into professional football and had to relegate to the amateur league after only one year . Due to persistent knee problems, Schülbe ended his career as a football player in the summer of 1992.

Others

After his football career, Schülbe became an insurance broker. He is the current president of the sports club BSV Halle-Ammendorf .
