The Lycée Ermesinde (short form: LEM for Lycée Ermesinde Mersch ) is a Luxembourg high school in the municipality of Mersch, north of Luxembourg City . It takes students across seven grades from lower school to high school . The school was named after the Luxembourg Countess Ermesinde I. .

history

The grammar school was founded by decree in the 2005/2006 school year and was initially called Neie Lycée , i.e. New grammar school . New not only stood for the new school at the new location, but also for a new project; the school has a pilot character. At first only the lowest levels were held and the number of students grew from year to year. In 2012 the first year was fully trained; the first students were able to take their final exams.

From the start, the building has also housed the LTPES (Lycée Technique pour Professions Educatives et Sociales) school of education .

concept

The school experiences that the students should have are based on three different pillars: In addition to the normal learning content, the focus is on their own studies, which are topic-oriented . These are issued for one school year each and, in addition to the general teaching content, are treated in as many perspectives as possible. Each student chooses an annual paper on this topic, a written dossier that is included in the assessment.

The third pillar is practical activities in various fields of activity such as fine arts, cooking, nature and landscape, languages and culture, film and photography, performing arts and much more. The students have so many opportunities to develop their talents. Every student in the 7th, 6th and 5th grades must take at least six lessons per week, and four lessons from the 4th grade onwards. These activities are offered daily for four and a half hours in the afternoon. It is also possible to take internships in business. In the class before the Abitur, this activity is eliminated in favor of more time for the exams.

Up to the last class there are no school grades, but a written statement from the teacher describing the performance and behavior of the individual students.

Facilities

The all-day school is equipped with a cafeteria and a boarding school . There are also ten music studios where students can learn an instrument and rehearse in an ensemble. Another wing of the building is intended for physical exercise. In addition to the three-part multifunctional hall for team sports, there are two smaller but high gyms, primarily for acrobatics and circus. There are eight other, smaller gymnastics and gymnastics rooms on two floors. In addition to the general library, there are other smaller libraries in each classroom.

Houses

Depending on the size of the year, three or four classes of the same year are amalgamated under the responsibility of a teaching team consisting of teachers and educators of these classes. These groups form a unit for different functions and are called houses after neighboring communities in the region . For example, a house receives a topic every year that needs to be worked on. There are 7 houses:

  • Mersch
  • Ansembourg
  • Hollenfels
  • Koerich
  • Simmer
  • Schoenfels
  • Larochette

Governing bodies

The board of directors consists of eight people. Jeannot Medinger has been in charge since 2005. Another body is the Groupe de Pilotage , which, in addition to the directorate, includes a teacher representative from each of the seven houses. The CEIP (conseil d'évaluation et d'innovation pédagogique) exists as an advisory body, which meets twice a year and consists of nine university professors from different countries (Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Great Britain). Its members attend individual classes and talk to students, teachers and educators. The aim is to find potential for improvement in practical lessons both from their technically qualified side and from the school side and to implement this in cooperation with the board of directors. All students from the different houses hold their assemblée once a week in which announcements can be made and problems can be discussed.
