Lycium Afrum is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Lycium afrum is a 1 to 2 m high plant that is armed with strong thorns and the branches are rigid. The leaves are 10 to 23 mm long and 1 to 2 mm wide, they are very narrow, inversely lanceolate.
The calyx is 5 to 7 mm long and deeply five-toothed. The crown is 20 to 22 mm long and almost cylindrical. It is purple-brown in color and has corolla lobes about 2 mm long. The stamens do not protrude beyond the crown, the stamens are hairy at the base with a dense tuft of trichomes .
The fruit is a purple berry .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The species is native to southern Africa and occurs in Europe in the western Mediterranean as a neophyte.
Systematics
Within the box thorn ( Lycium ) the species is grouped according to phylogenetic studies in a clade with other ancient world species of the genus. Within this clade, the species is closely related to the species Lycium arenicola , Lycium schizocalyx , Lycium cinereum , Lycium horridum and Lycium ferocissimum .
