Lykke Friis

Lykke Friis (born October 27, 1969 in Lyngby-Taarbæk ) is a Danish political scientist and politician of the liberal party Venstre .

Lykke Friis is the daughter of a Dane and a German. She attended Øregaard grammar school and studied political science at the University of Copenhagen. Lykke Friis received an M.Sc. in “Economics and Political Science” from the London School of Economics and Political Science , a year later a cand.scient.pol. from the University of Copenhagen. She did her PhD in 1997 in Copenhagen in the field of international politics. Since March 1, 2006, she has been Vice Rector of the University of Copenhagen for a five-year term and from December 2007 a member of the Council of Wise Men on the Future of Europe .

Friis was appointed Minister of Climate and Energy on November 24th, 2009 and joined Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen's party on the same day . She replaced Connie Hedegaard . In the course of a government reshuffle, she was also given responsibility for equality on February 23, 2010. While the government of Løkke Rasmussen I was not confirmed by the voters in September 2011, Friis won a seat in parliament and from then on held the post of European policy spokeswoman for the Venstre group in the Folketing . In May 2013 she resigned her mandate in order to become Vice Rector of the University of Copenhagen again from August.

On October 27, 2009, she received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for her services to German-Danish relations.
