Lynchburg is a small US town with around 6,000 inhabitants (as of 2013) in the US state of Tennessee , 120 km south of Nashville . The core city has only 400 inhabitants, the remaining residents live in Moore County . The metropolitan area and county have a common administration. Lynchburg is the seat of Whiskey - Distillery of Jack Daniel's known.
The town
In the center of the village there is a court building from the 19th century, next to it there are souvenir shops, restaurants and service providers. Every year more than 200,000 tourists visit the city and the distillery, which was founded in 1866 by Jasper "Jack" Newton Daniel . The decisive factor for the settlement was his discovery of a completely iron-free limestone spring on the edge of the town center. Around 72 million barrels (2013) of the whiskey are stored in the hills and mountains around Lynchburg.

Trivia
The consumption of alcohol is prohibited in the entire county . The corresponding law dates from the time of prohibition and could only be repealed through a democratic process, which would require 1000 votes from citizens of Moore County. There is one exception, however: At the headquarters of the Jack Daniel's company, where touristic tours also take place, whiskey may at least be sold, if not consumed, based on a special permission granted by the Senate .
