Lysurus is a genus of fungus from the family of Stinkhorn relatives (Phallaceae). It includes eight species, the main distribution of which is in the tropics .

features

As with other representatives of the rods fungi develop the fruiting bodies of lysurus TYPES of a whitish, round Hexenei . Most species, such as B. in Lysurus cruciatus or Lysurus mokusin , the ripe fruiting bodies consist of a cylindrical, round or ribbed stem that ends in 3–4 short, spongy arms. These arms, which usually separate from each other, are covered by the olive-green, foul-smelling gleba . But there are also deviations in the shape of the spore-bearing fruiting body sections: In Lysurus corallocephallus the stalk ends in the form of coral-like, branched, scarlet branches, while the stalk of Lysurus periphragmoides holds up a lattice-shaped "ball".

species

In 1980, Dring recognized five species. L. pakistanicus was described in 2006 and L. brahmagirii from Kerala , India in 2011 . A phylogenetic study from 2014 also showed that Aseroë arachnoidea no longer belongs to this genus, but to the genus Lysurus . The current number of species is eight.
