The steam locomotive series MÁV IIIe was a freight train - steam locomotive series of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV), which was also procured by the Kaschau-Oderberger Bahn (KsOd). The IIIe was one of the MÁV series that achieved very high numbers.
history
The total of 497 MÁV machines were manufactured by Wöhlert / Berlin , Budapest , Wr. Neustadt , Krauss / Linz , StEG , Floridsdorf between 1882 and 1897. They had external frames and internal controls . Due to the long delivery period, the younger machines received a slightly better boiler and an enlarged smoke chamber to contain the flying sparks. There were also some other small differences in the dimensions shown in the table. As an adaptation to the local types of coal, which had a high ash content, the machines allowed the stoker to use a rod to free the grate from the slag and also to empty the ash pan.
From 1912 to 1925 some of these locomotives were fitted with Brotank boilers .
The locomotives that were classified before 1891 were given the numbers MÁV 401–500, 601–700 and 901–959 in the first MÁV designation scheme. In the second scheme these and those added after 1891 were given the designation IIIe 2251–2747. From 1911 they were classified as 326.001–497.
KsOd also ordered 15 Type IIIe vehicles from MÁVAG in Budapest . They were designated as IIIe 206-220. The machines delivered from 1892 to 1898 corresponded to the first MÁV vehicles with the somewhat weaker boiler design. When the KsOd was nationalized in 1924, all vehicles came to the ČSD , which gave them the designation 313.201–215 and which they were in use until the 1950s.
The Gysev also owned several type IIIe machines. These had different origins; once from the 335 series , several tender locomotives with the 1'B wheel arrangement were converted into C locomotives and brought up to the technical standard of the IIIe series. Compared to the MAV-IIIe, the Gysev17 locomotive shown has a higher speed, a larger drive wheel diameter and a greater length. It cannot be said exactly what the original type of this locomotive is.
