Mánes (Art Association)
The Association of Visual Artists Mánes ( Czech Spolek výtvarných umělců Mánes - SVU Mánes ) is an artists' association founded in 1887 in the Czech capital Prague , named after the painter Josef Mánes . The association's building is located directly on the right bank of the Vltava .
At the beginning of the 20th century, the association was instrumental in the development of Czech Cubism and Rondo Cubism .

The first chairman was Mikoláš Aleš . In 1956 the association was dissolved by the Communist Party . In 1990 the SVU Manes was resumed.
building
The Mánes Art Association has its seat on Masarykovo nábřeží and connects the bank with an island of the Vltava (Slovanský ostrov). There was originally a mill (Šítkovský mlýn) on the site . This was replaced in 1928-30 by a functionalist building by the architect Otakar Novotný . The water tower dates from 1495.
