Mörderberg (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)
Killer mountain

The Mörderberg near Weitin, a district of the district town of Neubrandenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , is located about 2500 meters northeast of the town on Landstrasse 27.

At the northern end of the mountain plateau is an early German tower hill (Motte) from the 13th and 14th centuries. A small castle complex , consisting of a stone tower and surrounding farm buildings , once stood on it . On the rest of the mountain plateau there was probably a suburb settlement . In 1348 the castle was mentioned in a document as "Castrum Walwensmoelen". Possibly the client was Walwanus, who was provost of the Broda Monastery on Lake Tollensesee from 1293 to 1309 . The main task of the facility was likely to have been to secure the nearby madder mill and the trade route leading past it to Altentreptow .

The last remnants of ruins were removed in the first half of the 19th century to build roads. From 1976 to 1978 archaeological excavations were carried out on the ground monument . They provided evidence that the tower hill was secured at the foot with a ditch and a palisade fence . Horseshoes, crossbow bolts, combs, iron nails and ceramic shards were recovered.
