Mühlbach is a fraction and cadastral municipality of the municipality of Gais in Mühlbachtal , a small side valley of the Tauferer Tal near Bruneck ( South Tyrol , Italy ).

history

Mühlbach was first mentioned as a village in 1337. It formed a Pimberch (= tax and economic community) of the Uttenheim court .

In 1786 Mühlbach received its own chaplain. At that time there were 226 souls. However, the Expositus had no right of baptism or marriage. The dead had to be buried in Gais. In addition, the Mühlbachers had to go to the main church service in Gais. It was not until 1831 that they were released from this obligation.

Mühlbach belonged to the judicial district of Taufers until the end of the First World War and was part of the Bruneck district . After it had previously formed its own community, Mühlbach was incorporated into the Gais community in 1928.

Until the 19th century, Mühlbach was only accessible on foot. In the sixties of the last century it was given a three-kilometer access road via Percha – Amaten – Tesselberg. It was not until 1975–1977 that the old connection route to Uttenheim was expanded into a driveway.

The Mühlbacher Badl (1694 m), the highest of its kind in the Puster Valley, was popular with locals. It was a peasant bath in which there was a cheerful mixture of bathing (in wooden tubs) and alpine life. The healing power of the bath has been widely praised, especially for diseases of the digestive organs. The bathers had to feed themselves.

In 1967 the bathroom, already praised by Beda Weber , burned down . The house and chapel have now been rebuilt, but the swimming pool has not yet been resumed.
