The Mühlbacher Stausee (also Mühlbacher See , Italian Lago di Rio di Pusteria ) is located at the transition from the Puster Valley to the Eisack Valley in South Tyrol ( Italy ). In it the Rienza is dammed for the purpose of generating electricity. The municipal boundary between Mühlbach , which is located directly on the lake, and Rodeneck runs through the water.
history
The construction of the Mühlbach reservoir was commissioned by the fascist rulers in 1940 in order to meet the increased demand for energy and to achieve greater independence for Italy in terms of electricity supply. At the same time, the Franzensfester reservoir was built in the lower Wipptal . The water from both lakes feeds the power plant in nearby Brixen through pressure pipes .

The reservoir is about 26 hectares and a maximum of 18 m deep. The height of the storage target is 723 m . The lake holds about 1.77 million m³.
