Mill Bridge (Hann. Münden)
The mill bridge is a 76.5 meter long pedestrian bridge over an arm of the Fulda and the Eselwerder in Hann. Münden . It was built from 1978 to 1979 and connects the old town with Tanzwerder . It is a concrete girder bridge that rests on concrete support pillars. The wooden bridge structure has a tile-covered gable roof . The bridge is not straight, but bends several times at a slight angle. Visually, the building adapts to the cityscape of the half-timbered old town, as it gives the impression of a medieval battlement .
The bridge is named after its location on the Graumühle , which has existed as a water mill on the Fulda since the Middle Ages . On some historical pictures, such as that of Merian around 1654, a footbridge over the Fulda is shown at the site of today's bridge . In 1888 an "Eiserner Steg" was built over the river at the height of the Graumühle, which was torn down in the 1970s as part of the renovation of the old town . The bridge, which was also demolished, ran in the area of today's mill bridge.
The bridge is mainly frequented by people on their way to the old town who use the parking lot on Tanzwerder.
