history
Mühlhäuser was founded in 1907 by the three Mühlhäuser brothers and is now run by the fourth generation. The company offers customer-specific logistics solutions for tunneling and mining.
Production began with the manufacture of a wood and steel side unloader in 1912. In the years that followed, the company developed solutions for the various needs of road, rail, tunnel and tunnel construction that are used worldwide. Karl-Heinz Mühlhäuser, who became the sole owner in 1941, managed the constantly growing company until the 1960s. His son, Heinz-Peter Mühlhäuser, headed the increasingly international company for almost 50 years as managing partner. In 2013 he handed over the shares to his son Hubertus Mühlhäuser, who also acquired the shares from his uncle and cousin and is now the sole owner.
Mühlhäuser supplied machines for the construction of the New Elbe Tunnel , the New York Subway , the Eurotunnel and the Gotthard Base Tunnel . After the completion of the Eurotunnel, Mühlhäuser bought back some used vehicles in order to rent them out for other tunnel construction projects or to sell them overhauled. For the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the company built special ambulance and fire brigade trains as well as a huge vacuum cleaner to keep the tunnel clean.
