The Munich Spring Festival is a folk festival that has been taking place on Munich's Theresienwiese since 1965 . It is also often referred to as the small Oktoberfest , next to the Oktoberfest as the "big" Wiesn .

Festive course

The festival lasts two weeks and begins in mid-April. To kick off the little Oktoberfest , the horse and carts of the two delivery breweries , the showmen's floats and two music bands move into the Theresienwiese on the first Friday . At 4 p.m. the first beer barrel is tapped and the festival officially opened.

On the following two Fridays in each case at 22 o'clock on the southern part of the Theresienwiese a large, colorful fireworks ignited. This is a present from the Munich showmen to the visitors.

There are two large beer tents , a wheat beer garden and a Pils carousel on the small Oktoberfest . The two delivery breweries are Augustiner and Paulaner . In the Augustiner tent Festhalle Bayernland beer is traditionally served from wooden barrels, and since 2006 there have also been wooden barrels in the Munich festival tent from Paulaner.

Over 100 showmen - mainly from the Munich area - come to the Spring Festival every year to kick off the season. The traditional rides include the Ferris wheel , chain carousel , ghost train , music express , several nostalgic children's carousels and the Münchner Rutschn , the longest transportable slide in Europe. Next there is the biggest transportable Go-Kart -Bahn in Europe, a log flume , and for the young audience a Top Spin , a break dancer , and bumper cars . Annually changing attractions are either novelties among the rides or classics such as B. the moon lift .

Since the anniversary year 2004 (40th Spring Festival), the organizer of the Spring Festival together with the two breweries has brought out a collector's mug limited to 1,000 pieces, a so-called Keferloher , with the respective Spring Festival motif.
