MB Paul

Morrison B. Paul , also MB Paul , (born September 30, 1909 in California , † February 26, 1993 in Riverside ) was an American film technician who was mainly active in the field of special effects and photographic effects. At the Academy Awards in 1950 he was awarded an Oscar for technical merit .

Life

In 1937, MB Paul worked as a still photographer on the mystery film The League of Frightened Men by Alfred E. Green , in which Walter Connolly played the private detective Nero Wolfe . He assumed his responsibility in the action - adventure film The Prairie from 1947 on a novel by James Fenimore Cooper , and in two musical comedies of Arthur Dreifuss : An Old-Fashioned Girl with Gloria Jean and Shamrock Hill with Peggy Ryan (both 1949).

Paul, who was one of the film technology pioneers in Hollywood , was honored with a Technical Achievement Award at the 1950 Academy Awards "for the first successful large-area seamless translucent backgrounds" ("For the first successful large-area seamless translucent backgrounds").

For the 1962 film drama The King of Hawaii with Charlton Heston , Yvette Mimieux and George Chakiris as well as the film comedy Sexy! with James Garner and Kim Novak from the same year Paul worked again as a still photographer. In 1963/1964 he worked in the field of photography and optical effects for 17 episodes of the television series The Outer Limits and in 1965 he was the boss behind the camera for the 1969 thriller Big Daddy with Victor Buono and Joan Blondell .
