The MINI John Cooper Works Rally is designed for cross-country rallies based on the Mini Countryman developed SUV the prototype class, which the German private team X-Raid around team manager Sven Quandt will be built and used. The MINI John Cooper Works Rally was first used in the Dakar Rally in 2017 .

Origin and development

Compared to its predecessor, the MINI ALL4 Racing, the center of gravity of the MINI John Cooper Works Rally has been lowered and some performance features have been improved in order to achieve better drivability.

The body design is based on the 2nd generation of the MINI Countryman. As a result, the lines and the headlights in particular have changed. The tubular steel frame was redesigned and now enables the third spare wheel to be accommodated in the lower part of the vehicle. This creates the space required in the rear to position the cooling lower. Both changes resulted in a further lowering of the center of gravity.

The MINI John Cooper Works Rally has also been optimized in terms of aerodynamics through tests in the BMW Group's wind tunnel. This enabled a higher top speed and improved acceleration from 140 km / h to be achieved. In addition, a new engine mapping was designed. By lowering the center of gravity of the vehicle by 50 cm in the form of 50 kg, handling in all types of terrain and maneuverability in curves could be improved.

Rallies

In its first outing, the 2017 Dakar Rally , the X-raid MINI John Cooper Works Rally Team started with the following driver pairings:

In 2018, Yazeed Al-Rajhi and Timo Gottschalk won the Silk Road rally in the passenger car class with a MINI John Cooper Works Rally .
