The Mini All4 Racing is designed for cross-country rallies based on the Mini Countryman developed SUV the prototype class, which the German private team X-Raid around team manager Sven Quandt will be built and used. The Mini All4 Racing contested its first Dakar Rally in 2011 - driven by Guerlain Chicherit and Michel Perin . In the 2012 Dakar Rally X-Raid skipped Trebur a five vehicles.

Origin and development

Before the Mini All4 Racing, the X-Raid team relied on the BMW X3 CC . However, production of the BMW X3 was relocated to the USA and partner Magna Steyr was awarded the contract for the Mini Countryman. X-Raid took up this change and built the Mini All4 Racing within 90 days. In June 2010, Sven Quandt received approval from BMW for the project and Magna Steyr announced its support on September 24th. Magna Steyr is responsible for the concept design, the technical drawings and compliance with the FIA requirements for rally raid competitions. The frame and the chassis are manufactured by Heggemann Autosport GmbH in Büren , and the French company Faster Racing produces the body of the Mini All4 Racing from synthetic resin reinforced with carbon and aramid fibers . The Mini Design Team and Magna Steyr were significantly involved in the construction of the vehicle.

At the 2011 Dakar Rally , however, the Mini All4 Racing retired early when Guerlain Chicherit overturned after a rollout on the rest day. As a result, some changes were made to the Mini All4 Racing. In particular, the center of gravity could be lowered. To achieve this, the radiator and tank were moved further down, and the chassis was widened. Another change to the chassis is the shortening of the bonnet and a steeper slope angle . In addition, the Mini All4 Racing could be lightened by 30 kilograms.

Rallies

The Mini All4 Racing saw its first rally outing at the 2011 Dakar Rally. Guerlain Chicherit and Michel Perin were ninth after the first half. However, the Frenchman overturned after the rollout on the rest day in Arica.

Stéphane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret achieved their first victory in Mini All4 Racing at the 2011 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.

At the 2012 Dakar Rally , the X-Raid team started with the following driver pairings:

  • Stéphane Peterhansel / Jean-Paul Cottret - green Mini All4 Racing
  • Nani Roma / Michel Perin - yellow Mini All4 Racing
  • Leonid Novitskiy / Andreas Schulz - orange Mini All4 Racing
  • Krzysztof Hołowczyc / Jean-Marc Fortin - Orlen Mini All4 Racing
  • Ricardo Leal dos Santos / Paulo Fiuza - red Mini All4 Racing

The team was able to achieve overall victory as well as places 2, 4, 8 and 10 in the overall “car” classification.

At the 2013 Dakar Rally , Peterhansel and Cottret once again won the overall standings in a Mini All4 Racing. Further minis followed in 3rd and 4th place.

The following year Roma and Perin won the overall ranking of the 2014 Dakar Rally in a Mini All4 Racing. Other minis took places 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 19, and 31.

In 2015 Nasser Al-Attiyah / Mathieu Baumel again won the overall ranking of the Dakar Rally in a Mini All4 Racing. The other minis used reached the finish in places 3, 4, 5, 9, 12, 13, 18 and 22.
