MKT ambulance
The MKT ambulance oHG (MKT) is a company founded in 1985 in Munich, nationally operating private rescue service and ambulance companies in Bavaria. MKT Krankentransport OHG is the mother of a group of companies with locations in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Austria. According to its own statement, the company including subsidiaries employs a total of 950 people (as of March 2020). According to the specialist magazine Rettungsdienst , MKT is one of the largest private ambulance and rescue service providers in Germany and the largest private provider in southern Germany, where the Bavarian Red Cross has traditionally been commissioned with the ambulance service and ambulance transport. As a group of companies, MKT is particularly well represented in Bavaria, with locations in Munich, Rosenheim, Augsburg, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Ingolstadt, among others. There are also branches in Stuttgart and Reutte, Austria (Tyrol). MKT operates six locations (rescue stations) in Munich alone and three in Augsburg. In the first few years of the company's existence, access to the public ambulance service and patient transport often had to be fought for in court. MKT is not only active in the ambulance and rescue service, but is also active in areas of traditional aid organizations such as first aid broad training, medical services and disaster control.
Controversies in procurement procedures
Although the company, like all companies active in emergency rescue, has been an equal part of the public rescue service since the introduction of the integrated rescue control center in Bavaria as part of the amendment of the Bavarian Rescue Service Act in 1998, private service providers such as MKT are often seen as opposed to the aid organizations . The allocation of a location, for example, sometimes causes controversial reporting, especially in the local press. In October 2019, for example, after the allocation of an RTW parking space in Glonn, Upper Bavaria ( Ebersberg district ), Münchner Merkur reported online about "(...) good news for the citizens, but at the same time bad news for the local Red Cross". In the same article, the district administrator and 2nd deputy chairman of the BRK district association Ebersberg Robert Niedergesäß is quoted in relation to the award that "You [...] is a slap in the face of the BRK volunteers in the southern district of Ebersberg, precisely because the BRK has already supplied this area well and with great commitment within the framework of the legal requirements. ”In the meantime, a 10-year contract has been concluded between MKT OHG and the responsible rescue association. With an estimated 1200 deployments per year, the deployment of full-time staff is not a problem. The contract for the Anzing ambulance was also extended by 10 years.

Remarkable
Until it was integrated into the public rescue service, MKT operated an independent rescue service and emergency doctor service, similar to other private providers. This included a Porsche equipped as an ambulance vehicle and a Neoplan bus converted into an ambulance . Thanks to the cooperation with HTM Helicopter Travel Munich GmbH, MKT can also offer ambulance flights. A Eurocopter EC 135 helicopter that is suitable for night flight is used , which is approved as a rescue helicopter and has full medical equipment.
